So, it’s been a little while. Care to talk some more about my wedding?
As you know, music is, like, a thing for me. Naturally, I spent a lot of time thinking about my wedding music, carefully crafting playlists to appropriately set the mood while representing Bryan’s and my personalities. Plus, if there’s anyone who hates cliche wedding music, it’s the bearded former DJ I’m married to.
In light of that, here’s a little sampling of the songs we played on our day.
Pre-Ceremony
While guests found their seats on the beach for the ceremony, they listened to a selection of tunes I chose for their beauty and/or romantic lyrics.
Beach House “Take Care”
Jose Gonzales “Stay Alive”
Iron & Wine “Each Coming Night”
The Shins “So Now What”
Youth Lagoon “17”
Kishi Bashi “Q&A”
Aisle
I walked down the aisle to The Beatles because, well, I’d been fantasizing about doing that for years! And also because I’m the literal sunshine in Bryan’s life, obviously.
The Beatles “Here Comes the Sun”
Post-Ceremony
I just couldn’t resist including my girl Dolly in our ceremony, so Bryan and I walked up the aisle to “Marry Me” after our I Do’s. I didn’t tell Bryan about that ahead of time, of course, so he wouldn’t have an opportunity to shoot my brilliant idea down.
Dolly Parton “Marry Me”
We stayed on the beach for champagne and sparking juice with our guests before heading off to take pictures, so I chose some vintage jams to set the mood.
Whitney Houston “How Will I Know”
Jermaine Stewart “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off”
Bobby Brown “Every Little Step”
Madonna “Lucky Star”
CeCe Peniston “Finally”
Dinner
Our dinner playlist was packed with some of my very favorite songs. It was also like three hours long, so I won’t exhaust you by listing all the tunes. Here’s a small selection:
Sea Wolf, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel, Real Estate, Yeasayer, Delta Spirit, Alvvays, Cayucas, Brave Baby, Alabama, Phil Collins, Cults, Tammy Wynette, Gregory Alan Isakov
Of all of the compliments I received about our wedding, some of the best were when guests commented on liking our music selection. After all, like half of our guests were/are in bands who had/have actual fans, and the rest of them are super pretentious music snobs. I’m glad all of my hard work paid off.
Perfect choices!
