I got a promotion! I am now a Media Buyer at my company. Ok, I’m the Media Buyer at my company.
I officially started in this new position on March 1, so my schedule last week was jam-packed with Media Buying 101 as I tried to familiarize myself with the new role as quickly as possible. I’m in charge of purchasing all of our advertising on tv, radio and print, as well as developing other marketing partnerships. Yes, it’s a little overwhelming, but it’s also so interesting!
It’s neat to learn the science and strategy behind advertising. I’ve even gotten the inside scoop on all the upcoming new summer and fall tv shows on national networks! Plus, clients have given me tickets to Pacers games and the Big 10 tournament, and I didn’t pay for a single lunch or dinner at all last week! I could definitely get used to this.
Though this means I’m no longer technically in the Boys Club, I still sit next to them, and I’ll still work alongside them on a daily basis. So, I’m sure there’s more ridicule to come. Just this week, I responded when someone called me a “gentleman.”
Congratulations! That sounds really exciting. Does this mean you’re better than the boys club now? I would assume so. And also, I want some swag. If you get too much and don’t know what to do with it, you have my address.
