Also in Estes…

After our visit to the Stanley Hotel (see below), we went into Rocky Mountain National Park to visit my Grandpa and Uncle. No, they don’t live in the forest, but their ashes are there.

My Uncle Derek died of cancer when he was young. I was young, too. It was always one of his wishes to live by the mountains. So, when he was creamated, his ashes were scattered in the mountains facing Long’s Peak, one of his favorite views.

My Grandpa M&M (because he always gave us M&Ms when we came to visit) died of cancer a few years later. His ashes are by Derek’s, so they can always be together. (His ashes are also in other places, including Vegas and Germany.)

Anyway, we went to visit them. I hadn’t been there in a long time, but luckily Aunt Darcy knew right where to go. I was glad to be there, to have a few minutes of reflection and to experience the view that Grandpa M&M and Derek so enjoyed when they were alive.
